An example of the casual cruelty of traditional bus timetables.

The PassageWay talk focused on meeting bus passenger information needs with real-time digital signs.

Summary of the presentation

Despite being the most used form of public transport, bus travellers are widely under-served with real-time information. London TravelWatch, have reported that there are circa 2.3 million Londoners who are digitally excluded/low digital use customers who do not benefit from mobility Apps and instead have to rely on on-street timetables. In this talk, Chris Johns, one of the Founders of PassageWay delved into the historical context of bus information and discussed how the work of PassageWay is helping to transform how customers navigate bus information with the benefit of real-time digital signs.

“It is not enough to seek the beauty of design. More precious still is the service we offer to another kind of beauty: people’s quality of life, their adaptation to the environment, encounter and mutual assistance.”

This quote, from the late Pope Francis can be interpreted that the ultimate purpose of RTPI is to help people feel better about public transport by removing/reducing the fear or anxiety that may people may encounter. That is all our jobs to help people feel better about the world around them.
