Supporting Local Authorities In Promoting Sustainable Transport
Whilst there has been some strategic flim-flam by the Government with regards to reaching UK Net Zero, the target remains to achieve this by 2050. Critical to meeting this threshold is tackling transport, currently the largest contributor to UK domestic greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for around 26% of the UK’s carbon emissions (2022 figures). The majority of these emissions are due to road transport, with cars making 52% of transport emissions.
Whilst central government sets the national agenda for public transport policy it is local government and the private sector that have responsibility to deliver most key transport outcomes. It is for this reason that we're delighted to partner with both Wandsworth and Richmond councils to help promote public transport to organisations across their boroughs.
Our partnership with Richmond and Wandsworth will introduce TfL Service Status digital signs to organisations such as schools, hospitals and businesses who have an interest in promoting increased use of public transport to their staff and visitors. The partnerships have already borne fruit with TfL Service Status signs having been deployed in several libraries and healthcare surgeries.
Of course, PassageWay TfL Service Status digital signs can play only a small role amongst a raft of impactful policy decisions, but we believe that together it is possible to make a difference to the transport choices people make, and by reducing the complexity of bus information that PassageWay can help effect that change.
In practical terms, we have partnered with Richmond and Wandsworth councils to supply engaging content for their websites and have deployed tailored microsites for each that showcase the TfL Service Status digital signs, their technical requirements and how to request one.
